Work Groups

Many hands make light work. Learn more about the ways you can help keep our studio running.

 

Clay Distribution

 

Work group members would help clay issuers the week prior to sessions starting to issue clay for each session. Also help to unbox clay and label the bags during the session. Also provide inventory information to the Supply Chair.

Exhibits

 

Work group members can assist the chairs with all aspects and logistics of exhibits and HPG related shows: providing input and ideas for shows, assisting with the application for venues; assisting with artist application; jurying; transporting and handle works for shows; packing and sending back work that is not accepted; assisting with the show sitting schedule; organizing volunteers; and assisting with the opening and closing of the show.

Facilities

 

Work group members can assist with construction activities and improvement projects that fall within the following priorities: identification and remediation of ongoing safety, health and security issues; planning for future facility improvements; coordination and construction of new Board approved projects; and routine maintenance of the existing facilities.

Firing

 

Work group members will work with the kiln chairs to maintain and fire studio kilns; plan, program and oversee the maintenance of the kilns; establish firing procedures in consultation with other qualified firers; ensure compliance with firing procedures for the kilns and that kiln logs are kept and filed; organize the schedule of glost and West Coast firings; recruit and train glost and West Coast kiln firing team leaders; ensure that members are trained in electric kiln firing procedures; and inform the Supply Committee Chair of kiln supplies and equipment that needs to be ordered.

Garden

 

Work group members will assist with cleaning and maintaining front landscaping and garden areas around the studio.

Glaze

 

Work group members can assist with monitoring glazes – levels, proper viscosity, cleanliness of buckets, and assist with glaze area organization.

Led by Chris Johnson and Scott Carter


Library

 

Work group members can assist with: reviewing the check out system; keeping area neat and tidy; set up displays; entice people to use the library; write a weekly book review for the update and raise a few dollars to buy books or DVDs. 

Led by Gemma Yamamoto


Pot Sales

 

Work group members can assist with Sale of donated pots; pricing of pots;  packing and storage of pots; provide input regarding dates and venues for pot sales; setting up, unpacking, arranging items  and breakdown at a sale (including tents); work with publicity chair to promote sale; transport all donations and sale supplies at HPG or any off site venue; and work with chairs on the details of each pot sale event.

Pugging

 

Work group members  will assist with recycling clay for re-use in the studio and other special projects; assist with processing recycled clay sludge for drying;  prep drying clay for sitters to clean and process through pinching; and meet twice monthly to process pinched clay using the pug mill, bagging and storing the clay appropriately.

Registration

 

Work group members can assist registrars with: Conducting the first class orientation; telling students when it’s time to register for class; provide input on recruiting new instructors; checking registration forms for accuracy; and assisting with PKC assignments.

Social Media & Website

 

Work group members can assist with: taking and posting photos to HPG Instagram and Facebook; assist chair in maintaining website; email news of pot sales to pot sale email list and local newspapers and event calendars; email workshop flyers and any workshop updates to workshop email list; design flyers for pot sales, workshops and other collateral as needed; create a photo library of students, members, instructors at the studio and of their work for use in publicity, flyers, website and social media; and create an archive of any media about HPG and also document key milestones, events, member facts for historical purposes.

Workshops

 

Work group members will assist the workshop chairs with workshop activities including preparing materials for the workshop, assisting with posting sign up in the studio, sending out notices of upcoming workshops, set up on the day of a workshop and clean up after a workshop has completed.
