Celebrating HPGʻs 55th Anniversary: Totems in the Garden to Honor Letty Geschwind
2022 marked Hawaii Potters Guildʻs 55th anniversary. And in the Summer of 2022, members decided to create a project of art and love. Many hands shaped many pieces and all were assembled into totem poles that now stand in the garden of Hawaii Potters' Guild. A dedication ceremony for the totems was held at the end of September to honor longtime member Letty Geschwind, for her passion for and long-time care of the garden. Letty had a vision for this garden, once a patch of earth beside a sprouting arts guild. Over the decades her hands shaped and tended this little patch, she led the garden volunteers into their ongoing cultivation. In recognition of her many contributions, HPG President Janet Kelly announced that the Board had unanimously voted to bestow the honor of Garden Chair Emeritus upon Letty. May Letty’s volunteer spirit and generous sharing be carried on in those who learn, create, and build friendships at HPG.
